Proper name [Ancient Greek]

IPA: /spar.ɡa.pí.sɛːs/, /spar.ɣaˈpi.sis/, /spar.ɣaˈpi.sis/, /spar.ɡa.pí.sɛːs/ (note: 5ᵗʰ BCE Attic), /spar.ɡaˈpi.se̝s/ (note: 1ˢᵗ CE Egyptian), /spar.ɣaˈpi.sis/ (note: 4ᵗʰ CE Koine), /spar.ɣaˈpi.sis/ (note: 10ᵗʰ CE Byzantine), /spar.ɣaˈpi.sis/ (note: 15ᵗʰ CE Constantinopolitan)
Etymology: From Scythian *Spargapisa, from *sparga (“scion, descendant”) (cf. Avestan 𐬯𐬞𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬖𐬀 (spar^əγa, “sprout”)) + *pisa (“adornment, decoration”), from an older *paisah (cf. Avestan 𐬞𐬀𐬉𐬯𐬀 (paēsa)). Alternatively, the second element could be *pisa, from Common Iranian *paiśa (“outlook”). Compare with Σπαργαπείθης (Spargapeíthēs), from Scythian *Spargapaiθa, where *paiśa changed to *paiθa.
